When Is a Person with Alzheimer’s Ready for Hospice?
Solano Care

As an Alzheimer’s patient’s condition progresses, there are several signs to look for that will help you determine when your loved one is ready for hospice care.

One of the first signs is an increase in confusion and agitation. This can happen when the disease progresses to the point where your loved one is no longer able to recognize family members or friends. It can also happen when they start to lose their ability to communicate with others, including themselves.

Another sign is a change in sleeping patterns. If your loved one starts sleeping more during the day and less at night, this could be a sign that they’re ready for hospice care.

If you notice that your loved one has trouble swallowing food or liquids, it could be an indication that it’s time to call a hospice care provider as well.

The last indicator is when your loved one starts exhibiting symptoms like nausea or diarrhea as a result of their medication regimen or other treatments they’re receiving; this may mean it’s time to switch over to hospice care instead.

If you think your loved one would benefit from hospice care, Solano Care is ready to help. We pride ourselves on our compassionate registered nurses and their ability to work with patients and families to ensure that everyone is comfortable and well cared for.
